EKU WEB ACCESSIBILITY STANDARDS

The University’s web resources shall be deployed in a manner that ensures that all members of our community, including individuals with disabilities, have access to University information. University Web Accessibility Standards serve our community in this manner and help further ensure the University’s compliance with applicable legislation and recommended standard practices.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:

  • ALL pages of official University web sites should conform state and federal laws, and comply with the general principles of the World Wide Web Consortium Guidelines as set forth listed at http:// www.w3.org/TR/WCAG20/ and meet Level A Success Criteria. All official University web pages shall be made accessible using the EKU Web Template and WCAG 2.0 Guidelines no later than the next significant redesign or major revision of any Web page existing as of the date of this issuance, May 1, 2009. Web pages existing prior to this date are considered Legacy pages, and shall be made WCAG accessible in a timely fashion, and upon request, shall be made accessible through an alternate method.
  • Upon request, University Web page content must be made available to any individual who requires access to the information by revising the web page so the content is accessible or through an alternative method. Depending on the page content, this alternative method could be hardcopy, phone, fax, email, traditional mail, etc. The unit responsible for the web page is responsible for providing such access in a timely manner.

RESPONSIBILITY FOR MEETING STANDARDS:

Generally, each department/unit responsible for web pages is responsible for ensuring that its Web pages are in compliance with these requirements and the EKU Web Accessibility Standards. More specifically:

  • EKU Web Services (Public Relations and Marketing) is responsible for producing and maintaining the accessibility features of the University’s main Web pages and all associated templates.
  • The Office of Continuing Education and Outreach and IT are jointly responsible for the accessibility of the online course system.
  • Web authors, including instructors, are responsible for the accessibility of web content they create and edit.
  • Departments in each College are responsible for designating at least one member (faculty or staff) as the contact for accessibility information. This individual will have Blackboard access to the newly established EKU Accessibility Information Center.

SUPPORT AND RESOURCES FOR MEETING STANDARDS:

  • The University provides support, training and help to monitor these requirements through the University’s Web Accessibility Coordinator, Parker Owens, parker.owens@eku.edu, 622-2743.
  • Training dates and other training resources are available at www.accessibility.eku.edu.
