QuickTips for MS Word

Create structured documents using headings, lists, and paragraphs

Select text.
Click on the dropdown to the left of the font control.

On the formatting tool bar, the second control is the dropdown for structural markup.

Choose a Heading level.

 By clicking on the dropdown, you can choose a structural level. Alternatively, you can get to the formatting by using alt-o-s 

For lists, select text and click on the numbered or unumbered tools.

Alternatively, alt-o-b

Provide alt text for images

Click on image to select it.
Right-click, open “Format Picture.”
Click on the “Web” tab.
Fill out the Alternative Text box.

Save the file as (filtered) HTML

File > Save As > Web Page, Filtered

One last tip: Make sure you give your students a link to download the MS Word Viewer from Microsoft at http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/ (Word link)
