Quicktips for MS Word 2003

Create structured documents using headings, lists, and paragraphs

Select text.
Choose a Heading level from the Home tab.

  Headings

For lists, select text and click on the numbered or unumbered tools.

Alternatively, alt-o-b

Provide alt text for images

Click on image to select it.
Go to “Format” tab and click on the size panel button.

Picture format tab is activated with alt+J+P

Choose the Alt Text tab.
Fill out the Alternative Text box.

The size panel is opened with shift-f10 size while image is selected.

Save the file as (filtered) HTML

Windows Button > Save As > Web Page, Filtered

The Windows Button is a new feature in MS Word 2007.

The window button is activated with alt-F

One last tip: Make sure you give your students a link to download the MS Word Viewer from Microsoft at http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/ (Word link) and the Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack for 2007 File Formats so Word 2003 can open 2007 files.
