Turn off the images in your browser. (In the Internet Explorer menu bar, choose Tools - Internet Options. Click on the "Advanced" tab. Under the "Multimedia" section, unclick "Show Pictures")

Place your mouse on top of your monitor, or turn it upside down. Tab through the page and try to navigate through the site without using a mouse.

Before you begin, use your mouse to place your insertion point in the address bar of your web browser. Press the tab key. Your browser will navigate from the address bar to the first hyperlink or form field on the page. Look for outlines around an image or hyperlink, and a flashing cursor in the form fields. Continue pressing the tab key and navigate to other pages by pressing "enter" after each selection.

Try to increase the font size. (In Internet Explorer, choose View - Text Size - Largest)

Look for other text problems. Is text on a background with sufficient contrast? Is text on a patterned or image background that makes it hard to read? Are blocks of text and sentences short and easy to read?

Print your page in black and white.

No graphics or charts
No video or other multimedia
No image maps
No frames
No forms
No animated gifs
No plug-ins required to access a page

Simple Audit for MS Word documents:

Are headings used?
Are fonts more than 10pts in size?
Is there good contrast of text on the background?
No flashing text or images?
